Daffodil Day
A message from our Chief Executive
18 August 2020
Some of you may have heard a radio announcement this morning, advising that Daffodil Day 2020 has been cancelled. Unfortunately, this message was only referring to the Auckland Division of the Cancer Society, but inferred it applied to all New Zealand. Auckland have had to cancel their street appeal because of the current COVID-19 Alert Level 3 status they are in, which will not permit street collections.
However, at this stage, Canterbury-West Coast Division is planning to proceed with a street appeal and fresh flower sales across the region, unless there is a change in Alert Level status. Clearly, the health and welfare of our collectors, staff and the general public is paramount, so we will be taking all steps to ensure appropriate measures are in place at all our collection sites and centres. I will be keeping you up to date with any changes to our current plans as they occur.
Please don’t hesitate to get back to me if you have any questions or concerns.
Many thanks for your ongoing and generous support of the Cancer Society and your understanding about the challenges we are all facing at this time.
Kind Regards,
Ngā mihi mahana
Liz
Daffodil Day is one of the most important fundraising and awareness campaigns in the country.
As well as providing an opportunity to raise awareness of cancer in New Zealand, Daffodil Day is a major funding source for the Cancer Society.
We are proud to be regarded as one of the country's most trusted charities and this is reflected in our fundraising practices.
The daffodil is one of the first flowers of spring, whose bright yellow blooms remind us of the joys the new season will bring. It represents the hope there is for the 1 in 3 New Zealanders affected by cancer.
The donations we receive go towards vital scientific research into the causes and treatment of all types of cancer, as well as providing a wide range of support services, information, health promotion and education programmes to reduce cancer risk, awareness campaigns and programmes for people affected by cancer.
